Astro

The
normal liquid ball head is swapped for a Wimberley mount for my astro work.
Later I hope to find a suitable motor driven equitorial mount. The Wimberley
allows smooth pan and tilt of a heavy lens (Nikon 200-400 zoom shown below,
although the 14mm f2.8 is also good in some situations
eg aurora) The whole set up is balanced so when in position it stays there
even when I leave go.

Short exposure
stops stars forming trails as below. This is where an equitorial mount comes
into its own as it will move the camera to compensate for the Earth's motion
and prevent trail during a long exposure.

Longer
exposure but now some trailing obvious also some sodium street lamp reflection
from the atmosphere.
